John R. Price
E-mail Address: pricehouse@earthlink.net
Occupation: Captain, L.A. County Fire Dept., Station 3
(East L.A.)
Message to Classmates: Hi to everyone out
there....thanks for all the e-mails; they have been the "bomb."
We truly grew up in the golden era and I too am proud to be a
part of OUR generation. I guess for the past 40 years I have
been a KISS kina guy trying to "keep it simple," get
to the "bottom line" and "telling it like it is."
In my profession those are priorities, and most people are not
concerned with rhetoric; but they do watch your performance.
Like the author Robert Fulghum says, "All I really need
to know I learned in kindergarten." Things like taking a
nap, eating cookies & milk, brushing your teeth, sharing
your toys, keeping the toilet seat up and holding hands when
you cross the street." My crew of firefighters had adopted
the "5 L's" as our motto. Each shift we....labor, learn,
laugh, love and leave!!! Looking forward to seeing you at the
reunion!! Until then remember....you can't unscramble an egg,
tomorrow's another day and fifty years from now it won't make
any difference. Take care & God bless, jp
School Activities: Varsity football, Varsity
basketball, Varsity baseball, Lettermen's Club, CSF, Key Club,
FTA, Junior Statesman, French Club
Life update: After graduation I attended
Long Beach City College, Whitworth College (Spokane, WA) and
then what was called Long Beach State College. After graduating
I taught and coached at Brethren High School and then went to
work for Douglas Aircraft in their engineering/lofting department
at the Long Beach facility. The remaining 34 years have been
spent with the Los Angeles County Fire Dept. Married to my wonderful
wife Anne and live just behind the "orange curtain"
in Brea. We have 7 children and 12 grandchildren; with another
in the "oven." Our five oldest are married with their
own families, our youngest daughter just graduated from Naval
Recruit Training and assigned to Pensacola, Fla. for intelligence
training and our youngest son will be a senior at Servite High
School next year. I have been on staff at East Los Angeles Community
College for the past 27 years and currently chair the Fire Technology
Department. I also served 10 years on the executive board of
our firefighters union as the lead advocate for all internal
affairs before Civil Service and the Employee Relations Commission.
I have held all the training positions within our department
and currently teach tutorial classes on supervision, mangement
and how to be successful at an oral interview. Just returned
from Fire West 2000 in San Jose where I was chosen to make a
presentation on "Leadership in the New Millennium."
Hobbies/Fun: Still actively involved in
sports activities. Life for me has been fun, and right now my
"hobbies" revolve around FAMILY, kids and grandkids;
boating, sea-doos, snowmobiling, etc. Enjoy working in my yard
and rose garden. Our latest fun adventure was taking our four
oldest grandkids to Disney World in Orlando, Fla.; WHAT AN EDUCATION!!!!
